Is home care covered by OHIP?
Who is this article for?
- Understanding what OHIP covers, what does not, and how to use HSA or private insurance for home care.
What OHIP covers
OHIP covers medically necessary services delivered in hospitals and clinics by physicians. Home care nursing provided by CCAC/LHIN is limited to post-acute cases with strict eligibility criteria.
What OHIP does not cover
Preventive health assessments, private duty nursing, ongoing wellness monitoring, and elective home care services are not covered by OHIP.
Using HSA and private insurance
WOXY provides itemised receipts for all services. These can be submitted to your Health Spending Account (HSA), workplace wellness benefits, or private insurance plans that cover paramedical services.
Tax deductions
Home care expenses for yourself or a dependent may be eligible for the Medical Expense Tax Credit (METC). Consult your accountant for personalized advice.
