WHAT WE MEASURE

Four key lipid markers. One complete picture of your cardiovascular health.

Total Cholesterol and LDL/HDL Ratio

Total Cholesterol and LDL/HDL Ratio

The lipid panel measures total cholesterol alongside LDL and HDL fractions. The ratio of LDL to HDL is among the strongest predictors of cardiovascular risk, offering a more clinically meaningful assessment than total cholesterol in isolation.

WHY IT MATTERS

High cholesterol has no symptoms. The only way to find out is to test.

Silent Cardiovascular Risk

Elevated cholesterol produces no symptoms. Arterial narrowing can progress undetected for years. A lipid panel is the only reliable way to identify dyslipidaemia before a cardiac event occurs.

  • No symptoms until damage is done
  • Detect risk before clinical onset
1 / 3

A comprehensive lipid panel can reveal the full picture of your heart health and help you take action before problems arise.

WHO IS THIS FOR

Relevant for more people than you might expect.

Cholesterol testing is clinically meaningful across a broad range of risk profiles. If any of the following applies to you, a lipid panel is a practical and important starting point.

Adults with Elevated or Borderline LDL

Previously informed of elevated cholesterol but not yet acting on it. A current lipid panel provides an accurate baseline and guides next steps.

Individuals with Metabolic Conditions

Diabetes, insulin resistance, and obesity are closely associated with dyslipidaemia. Regular lipid testing is a core component of metabolic health management.

Adults with Family History of Heart Disease

A family history of cardiovascular events or inherited lipid disorders significantly elevates personal risk. Proactive screening is strongly indicated.

Those Beginning Lipid-Lowering Therapy

Starting statins or a dietary intervention requires a baseline lipid panel. Serial testing confirms whether the approach is delivering measurable results.

Adults Aged 40 and Over

Cardiovascular risk rises substantially with age. Routine lipid screening is a fundamental element of preventive health care from this point forward.

Anyone Who Has Never Been Tested

Most adults with high cholesterol have no idea. There are no symptoms. A single lipid panel is the only way to know your current cardiovascular risk.

FAQ

Common Questions

A lipid panel is a blood test that measures the levels of fats (lipids) in your blood. It includes total cholesterol, LDL (low-density lipoprotein), HDL (high-density lipoprotein), and triglycerides. Together, these values give a comprehensive picture of your cardiovascular risk.

Fasting for 9–12 hours before the test is recommended for the most accurate triglyceride and LDL readings. Water is permitted during the fasting period. Your WOXY registered nurse will advise you on preparation when you book.

Optimal total cholesterol is below 5.2 mmol/L. LDL should ideally be below 2.6 mmol/L, while HDL should be above 1.0 mmol/L for men and 1.3 mmol/L for women. Triglycerides below 1.7 mmol/L are considered normal. Your registered nurse will interpret your results in the context of your overall health.

LDL (often called "bad" cholesterol) can build up in artery walls and increase the risk of heart disease and stroke. HDL ("good" cholesterol) helps remove LDL from the bloodstream and transport it to the liver for elimination. A higher HDL relative to LDL is generally protective.

Adults with no known risk factors are generally advised to test every 4–6 years. Those with risk factors such as family history of heart disease, obesity, diabetes, or hypertension should test more frequently — typically every 1–2 years. Your WOXY nurse will recommend a schedule based on your profile.

Yes. Diet, exercise, and weight management can significantly improve cholesterol profiles. Reducing saturated fats, increasing fibre intake, and regular aerobic exercise can raise HDL and lower LDL. WOXY's registered nurses can guide you on evidence-based lifestyle interventions following your results.
