This September, WOXY Health Guardian returned to 8 Chichester Place for our third health lecture with seniors in the community. This time, our focus was on a topic that concerns many families — diabetes and lifestyle management.

Small lifestyle changes, big health improvements
Traditionally, many people think “diabetes management” simply means avoiding sweets. But in this lecture, we introduced new, practical strategies that can truly help stabilize blood sugar:
Change the order of eating: Start with vegetables, then protein, and finish with carbohydrates or sweets. This simple adjustment helps lower post-meal blood sugar spikes.
Split meals into 5–6 mini-meals: Instead of three large meals, eating smaller, more frequent meals prevents large fluctuations in blood sugar.
Maintain and build muscle mass: Muscles act as the body’s main storage and consumer of glucose. More muscle means better blood sugar control and overall metabolism.
For many participants, these were completely new ideas, beyond the old advice of simply “don’t eat sugar.”

Tracking progress together
Along with sharing knowledge, we also conducted the third round of health checks for residents. Encouragingly, most participants showed better results compared to previous visits. These improvements reflect their consistent effort in applying healthier habits.
Building real connections in the community
Even more meaningful than numbers is the trust and friendship we’ve built with the residents. Over three sessions, we’ve gone from being visiting healthcare providers to becoming part of their community — bringing not only knowledge, but also care, assessments, and early disease detection right to their doorstep.
Expanding health influence across communities
What touched us most was that some participants weren’t even residents of 8 Chichester Place. They had heard about our regular health events and came from neighboring senior buildings to join. At the end of the session, several attendees asked if we could bring the program to their buildings as well.
For us, that is the highest compliment — when the community itself recognizes that these health talks are valuable and worth sharing.
The true meaning of community health
This is exactly what WOXY strives for:
To bring practical health knowledge into the community.
To support early detection and prevention of disease.
To walk alongside seniors and families as a trusted health partner.
From one apartment building to the next, our goal is to gradually extend this circle of care, so more seniors can benefit from accessible health information, trusted nursing assessments, and the warmth of genuine connection.
